VFF selects its preferred candidates

From John Buxton, president Gippsland regional branch, Victorian Farmers Federation:

The Gippsland regional branch of the Victorian Farmers Federation has surveyed the candidates standing for election in the Wellington Shire.

We asked them seven questions to determine their attitude on a range of issues.

 These included:

 The importance of agriculture to the Wellington Shire;

Equity of the rating system;Increases in the rate take;

Spending priorities and management of the shire;Planning and protection of agricultural land with high production potential; and

The need for and the future of the sale yards.

We received 11 replies from the 14 candidates, two of which came in after the cut off time.After considering the answers we have received, the branch would like to inform our members that in our view the following candidates would make the best councillors.

Amos, Boyce, Cleary, Cook, Duncan, Hildebrant, McCubbin, Rossetti, and Wenger.

The names are in alphabetical order and not in any order of preference.

We look forward to working with the new council to resolve some important outstanding issues we have.
