MAFFRA lost both its Country Basketball League matches against Korumburra on Sunday.
At the Cameron Sporting Complex, the Eagles lost the women’s match 67-52 and the men’s game 76-69.
In the women’s match, the visitors led by 10 points at quarter-time, then extended the margin to 25 by the main break.
The Wildcats led by 23 points at three-quarter-time, but the Eagles lift in the final term, outscoring the visitors 15-7.
Loni Jeffs top-scored with 27 points, while Korumburra teammate Chloe Hogg scored 23. Tayler Brouns led the Maffra scoring, with 14.
The Maffra men have now lost their past three matches.
The Eagles trailed Korumburra 19-13 at quarter-time and 35-31 at half-time, but took a 55-50 lead into the final term.
The lead was erased with back-to-back three-pointers from the Wildcats early in the final term. Maffra responded to regain the lead, but the Wildcats scored 14 of the final 20 points of the match.
Hudson Holmes top-scored for Maffra, with 22, while Marcus Cope scored 20. For the Wildcats, Joel Winderlich scored 22 and Lachie Thomas 19.
The Sale men’s team had the weekend off.
The Maffra and Sale men’s teams will return to action on Saturday, January 14, when they meet at the Cameron Sporting Complex.
The next day, Maffra’s men’s and women’s teams will host Moe.
