Prison sentence for fatal head-on

A FORMER Bairnsdale man has been sentenced to two and a half years in gaol for a crash which killed Sale policewoman Kate McLeod in October, 2015.

Initially charged with culpable driving and dangerous driving causing death, Patrick Mattu, aged 31, found guilty of one charge of dangerous driving on Wednesday at the Latrobe Valley County Court.

On Thursday, Mattu was sentenced to a two and a half years in gaol.

It's believed the off-duty policewoman was riding her motorcycle along the Princes Highway in Lindenow South, when Mattu's four-wheel drive collided head-on with the motorcycle. Mattu and his female passenger were not injured.
