THE Sale Rangers watched their Latrobe Valley baseball match against the Churchill Braves slip away early and couldn’t recover.
The Rangers lost at home 12-3 on Sunday.
Despite out-hitting the Braves nine to seven, the Rangers were unable to convert runners on base into a score.
After four innings, the Braves led 5-1 before they skipped away to a nine-run lead in the sixth.
Brad Jones led the way for Churchill, recording two hits.
The highlight for the Rangers was a Shane O’Shannassy home run during the seventh inning.
A SIMILAR story played out when Moe-Newborough took on South Gippsland.
The Dodgers hit six runs in the first inning, led off by a Jason Smith triple.
The Miners struggled against the pitching of Luke Halket, who only gave up two hits over his four innings on the mound as the Dodgers kept smacking the ball.
The home side collected 13 hits and gave up just the one error but capitalised on the fielding of the Miners to finish the game after five innings, winning 12-3.
THIS Sunday, Sale will travel to Morwell for lower grades matches against the Cougars.
Traralgon will host South Gippsland, and Moe-Newborough will welcome Churchill.
Junior matches will be played at Churchill on Saturday.
