LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
I READ with interest the reports regarding the current situation at the Sale hospital.
It is good to see that we are having input from the public.
Over the years I can only praise the service given to me and my family at this hospital.
Sorry to say that my recent contact has not been very satisfactory.
I have a shoulder injury and my doctor organised a referral to the Sale hospital for an x-ray and ultrasound.
When contacting the hospital for an appointment they advised that they could not help me, and to ring the Bairnsdale hospital — no reason given.
Bairnsdale hospital looked after me and bulk billed.
Last week after visiting my surgeon, I was advised that with no improvement I needed an MRI and gave me again a referral.
I made contact again with the Sale hospital.
Yes, they could help me, but the cost would be more than $200, as they did not have a full Medicare licence.
My question is, why have the Sale hospital not got a full licence to bulk bill?
This has only happened in recent times, as any work of this type was bulk billed.
I now must take a trip to the Latrobe Valley to obtain the service that was available at our local hospital.
