SALE Hockey Club will have four teams competing in East Gippsland grand finals on Saturday at Swan Reach.
Joining its open, under 18s and under 13s teams on grand final day, the Sale women’s team defeated reigning premier Swan Reach 4-2 in the preliminary final.
In its fifth consecutive women’s grand final, Sale will face Maffra for the premiership. The teams were only separated by a goal difference of one after the home-and-away season.
In the preliminary final at Maffra last Saturday, a strong performance across the field ensured Sale maintained possession for extended periods of the match and opened the scoring through a Julieanne Nicholls goal midway through the first half.
Olivia Hooper levelled the scores late in the half through after converting a short corner rebound.
Sale put its nose in front after the half-time whistle before the goal was over-turned.
With scores locked at 1-1 at the break, a determined Swan Reach put Sale under pressure for the opening five minutes of the half.
Sale worked its way back into the match and created multiple chances upfront.
A short corner conversion by Sarah Boag, followed by her converting a field goal when Swan Reach had a lapse in concentration put it out to a 3-1 lead.
Sarah Grixti put Swan Reach back in the match late in the match, followed by goal to Sale by Andie Christie to seal the victory.
Sale’s three other grand finalists qualified after winning major semi- finals a fortnight ago.
With 15 wins from as many matches this season, Sale will play Swan Reach in the open grand final.
Sale will take on Nagle in the under 18s and 13s.
Sale entered the finals in top spot on both ladders.
Maffra will enter the under 15s grand final against Nagle as favourite. However, the only blemish for Maffra’s season was a 3-3 draw with Nagle.
