SALE was unable to win any of the junior Latrobe Valley baseball grand finals, losing to Traralgon in the under 16s and under 13s.
In the under 16s, the two top teams met at Stephenson Park, with Traralgon winning 10-8.
Off to a good start, the Redsox scored a run without the Rangers crossing home plate.
The second inning was a hit-out for Sale, replying with three runs when Joel Hector whopped a triple to right field.
In reply, the Redsox scored four to lead by two.
The Rangers scored maximum runs in the third and were on top of their game when Hector tripled again.
In a must-score inning, the Redsox held true, scoring from a James Lynch triple to left field, and a double from Reece Watson.
With time running out, the Rangers needed to score two runs to stay in the game. Lynch managed to close the inning out without a score and the Redsox walked off getting the final out in a rundown play at home plate.
Traralgon’s Max Smith awarded the player of the final.
The under 13s match was a similarly tough battle. Both teams were close all day and found it difficult to get runners across the plate.
Excellent fielding from Sale out-fielders Jarvis Lyons ensured the Redsox didn’t jump out to too much of a lead, as he snagged three terrific catches.
The Redsox broke the deadlock in the second inning, when they scored four, largely due to a Malachi Dillon single, and managed to kept Sale score-less.
Sale then replied with two runs in the next two inning to tie the game back up.
The final roll of the dice had the Redsox leading off the inning. They picked up four and held Sale to only one run to take out the premiership 10-7.
Traralgon’s Mitchell Kirby was named player of the final.
