LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
REALLY! So Wellington Shire has a spare $2.2 million dollars which they have allocated to the 'beautification"'of Maffra's main street (one block).
This includes all new paving and kerb and channelling, landscaping and other 'streetscape' items such as furniture, bins and signage.
If the shire has this money to spend in Maffra why can they not find more practical ways to spend it that will improve the lives of most of the residents, rather than in one block.
I am suggesting footpaths in many of the streets that have none.
This would make a huge difference to people with mobility scooters, mothers with pushers, children walking or riding to school, as well as the many people who walk daily for exercise and enjoyment.
I have no footpath in front of my home which is a through road to schools and shops.
There are also many present footpaths that are dangerous with uneven or broken surfaces that need attention.
This money would be well spent and benefit many more people than spending it on one block in the main street.
