AFTER 72 years in the trade, Newry's most loved meat man, Ivan McNally, has decided it's finally time to close up shop.
Ivan's son Adam understands he is Australia's longest serving butcher a remarkable feat in what can be a back-breaking job.
Ivan doesn't remember exactly, but reckons he has run the small butcher shop in Main St, Newry, for "around 35 years".
The shop had previously operated as a butcher, but was closed when Ivan and his late wife Ruth, who died last year, saw the opportunity to re-open it and move from the bustling township of Sale to bring up a family in the close and quiet village of Newry.
Ivan admits that butchering is in his blood, and he has neither known nor wanted anything else.
