Police praise driver behaviour during the long weekend

WELLINGTON Highway Patrol said it was a credit to all the motorists who travelled through the area that only 53 general traffic offences were recorded during the long weekend.

Two offences were for drink driving.

There were no injury collisions reported on any roads in Wellington for the entire weekend.

Sergeant Luke Banwell, who worked the entire weekend, said a reduction in poor driver behaviour was evident.

"The lack of traffic offence detections, coupled with no reported injury collisions occurring in the area, is evidence of improved driver behaviour," he said.

The only injury collision for the weekend occurred on private property at Valencia Creek on Saturday, when a 19-year-old Yarram man fell off his motorcycle in a paddock and injured his shoulder.

There were also two non-injury collisions reported at the weekend.

About 10.20am on Sunday, a 69-year-old man from Heyfield collided with three parked cars in Dawson St, Sale.

The driver collided with the first parked car, which caused a domino effect with two other parked cars, causing significant damage to all vehicles involved.

No one was injured, and a licence review is being undertaken.

Sale police attended and investigated this collision.

At 11.55am on the same day, an 18-year-old male from Maffra collided with two parked cars in Church St, Maffra.

After colliding with one parked car, the driver then struck a second parked car, causing damage to both.

The driver was issued with a penalty infringement notice for using a mobile phone while driving.

Maffra police attended this collision.

"On the traffic front, I am very happy with the results of the weekend here in Wellington," Sgt Banwell said.

"I'm sure there will be some readers out there who witnessed some dodgy drivers over the weekend, but on the whole, the results indicate a great result.

"I hope we can keep it up for the upcoming holiday period."
