SALE Swimming Club has announced Olympian Samantha Abbas as its new head coach.
Abbas represented Great Britain in the 1984 and 1992 Olympics, reaching two finals.
In the 200 metre butterfly at the 1984 Los Angeles games, Abbas finished fifthth and set a new British record, which held until 1994.
To add to her accomplishments, Abbas was the British team captain, medalled in the Commonwealth Games and European championships and made the finals at the world championships.
Brings more than 20 year's coaching experience to the Sale Swimming Club, Abbas has an honours degree in sports science and is an accredited strength and conditioning coach. She is also the mother of three children that enjoy competitive swimming.
"Continuing to build and develop the Sale Swimming Club is paramount in my goals," Abbas said.
"The culture that the club provides will not only encourage our swimmers to be great athletes but valuable members of our community.
"The junior development is essential in the growth of the club and a strong Sale Swimming Club adds to the strength of Gippsland swimming, which is recognised nationally."
Club president Tony Anderson said the future of the club looked bright with the addition of Abbas to its already strong coaching team.
"The knowledge and experience she has will benefit not just our swimmers but the whole club," he said.
