TANARLY Hood shot 34 points to lead the Traralgon T-Birds to their fourth women’s Country Basketball League premiership in a row.
Traralgon defeated Moe 77-73 in a close grand final on Saturday night.
The T-Birds rocketed ahead early before the Meteors closed the gap, staying within a point or two right to the end.
In the final minute, there was only one point in it, but a series of free throws from Hood sealed the game.
Hood finished with four three-pointers, and was supported by Jade Melbourne, who scored 22.
Ella Cornish stood out for the Meteors, with 21, from five three-pointers.
The game capped a fine season from Traralgon, which lost just one game, to Maffra in round 13.
Moe had better luck in the men’s final, upsetting Warragul 57-54.
The game was interrupted after a Warragul player was stretchered off the court with concussion.
Stephen O’Brien top scored for the Meteors with 15, and Nick Sedley shot three three-pointers.
Ambu Oliando scored 13 for the Warriors.
The game was neck-and-neck until the third term, when Moe took control, keeping a small margin until the very end.
This is the second year in a row Warragul has made the finals, but couldn’t take the win.
