DARCY Wade has won the Australian junior modern pentathlon championship.

Competing at the weekend in Melbourne, Wade, from Stratford, won the event with high scores in all five disciplines.

In his first competition for 2018 and his first back since having surgery in November, Wade posted a near perfect score for the riding phase on a pool horse. In the fencing, he posted 23 victories and only seven defeats, while he also swam, ran and shot well to post high scores to claim the title.

Wade had just returned from a training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in January, and has been selected on the Australian team for the world youth championships, to be held in Portugal in April.
