THE East Gippsland Hockey Association season will begin on Saturday.
Maffra will head to Orbost and Sale will play Nagle in Bairnsdale. Wellington has the bye in round one, and will host Orbost at Lion’s Park, Sale, the following weekend of its first match.
Excitement in the EGHA centres on the opening of the new synthetic pitch at the Gippsland Regional Sports Complex in Sale. Wellington Shire’s three clubs — Sale, Wellington and Maffra — will play their home games there.
The association has scheduled the first matches at GRSC for round 10, July 10, with Wellington hosting Sale and Maffra taking on Swan Reach.
Three double headers have been scheduled involving the local clubs. For those double headers, the first open match will be played from 12.15pm or 1.35pm, with the second from around 6.45pm.
If the pitch is not ready, games will played at current home grounds from regular times.
All of the seven EGHA clubs will field teams in the under 11, 13, 15 and 18 grades. Wellington will be absent from the women’s competition and Nagle from the open.
