The Sale Rangers posted their first win of the Latrobe Valley baseball season on Sunday.
The Rangers were in control in the batter’s box, as they defeated the Churchill Braves 10-6 at home.
The Braves claimed the lead through Richard Humphries. It wasn’t until the bottom of the second innings, when Kade Eicke singled, that the Rangers evened things up.
The home side then took off, with a Brad Taylor single scoring two runs and a Rohan Hector double scoring a run. Churchill’s
Tim Bellerby threw a wild pitch, allowing Sale to score across the plate and Lachlan Wriggleworth grounded out, scoring another run.
In the sixth inning, Churchill scored three runs from a double from Brad Jones.
Wriggleworth approach the pitcher’s mound for Sale Rangers, pitching seven innings, striking out three and allowing six runs.
Bellerby took to the hill, allowing six runs and striking out two over two innings, before Humphies relieved, allowing four runs in the third innings.
The Rangers finished up with 14 hits, with multiples from Eicke, Taylor, Brad Bronts and Justin Johnston.
Sale recorded eight stolen bases, including two from Tim Hector.
In the other A grade match, Moe-Newborough defeated South Gippsland 12-8.
Traralgon had the bye.
The LVBA hosted a Mother’s Day Baseball Weekend, with some clubs getting into the spirit of the occasion by wearing pink.
This Sunday, the Sale Rangers will travel to Newborough to play the Dodgers, Traralgon will host South Gippsland and Morwell to head to Churchill.
