CHURCHILL can return to second place on the North Gippsland football ladder, for a week at least, if it’s able to give Yarram its first taste of defeat this season.
Sunday’s match at Gaskin Park will be the only NGFNL match this long weekend.
Former Adelaide and Richmond ruckman Ivan Maric will be playing for Churchill.
The Cougars lost second spot to Traralgon-Tyers last weekend, after the Bombers defeated the Cougars at Gaskin Park.
The Bombers were in control for most of the contest after kicking the only four goals of the first term. The Cougars got within nine points early in the final quarter, but the Bombers responded to win by 28.
Undefeated Yarram is two wins ahead of TTU on the ladder.
Last weekend, the Demons trailed lowly Cowwarr at quarter-time, but then added 24 goals and conceded only four more to win by 120 points.
The sides met in round one, with the Demons winning by 52 at Yarram.
THE round will conclude next weekend, with Heyfield hosting Sale City, Woodside travelling to Rosedale, and Gormandale welcoming Cowwarr on the Saturday, before Traralgon-Tyers United hosts Glengarry on the Sunday in the Pride Cup match.
There will be league-wide break in East Gippsland football this weekend.
