LADDER leader Morwell was too strong for Sale during round 13 of Gippsland League netball on Saturday.
The Magpies kept up with the visitors, trailing by only three goals at half-time, before the Tigers proved why they are on top, running away with the second half to win 44-28.
Morwell can credit its defenders for forcing turnovers to hurt Sale on the scoreboard — all-rounder Casey Sheriff and goal defence Courtney Garth were match-winners for the Tigers.
Morwell’s Rachel Allison also played well in midcourt, steadying and upping the pace in the visitors’ favour.
Defenders Ruby Phillips and Maggie Tatterson were among Sale’s best, while goal attack Jenny Wrigglesworth and coach Mel Johnston played their second full games for the day, because of player unavailability.
Under 15 Lillie Stobie also starred in her A grade debut.
IN the other matches to conclude the split round, Traralgon overran Wonthaggi 77-54, and Warragul just tipped the Drouin Hawks off their perch, winning 47-43.
The Warragul win is bad news for any Maffra supporters, as the teams are locked on equal wins in a battle for finals position. Maffra currently holds fifth spot on percentage.
