A FIRE in Maffra that destroyed the furniture and possessions of more than 30 families is believed to be suspicious, according to police.

The fire at the Andersons Removals Maffra headquarters in Malmo St began about 2.15am Monday morning, and quickly burnt through the main office and storage shed.

CFA crews brought the blaze under control by 4.50am, but the fire was still being extinguished at 10am.

Police said while the cause of the fire was still being investigated, it was believed to be suspicious.
