Seagulls set-up Stratford showdown

STRATFORD will face Lakes Entrance in the East Gippsland senior football grand final.

The Seagulls earned a second chance at taking down Stratford after defeating Wy Yung 14.12 (96) to 11.2 (68) in the preliminary final on Saturday.

Lakes Entrance took charge early, taking a nine-point lead at quarter-time, and restricting Wy Yung to just two goals in the second term.

The situation looked dangerous for the Tigers at half-time, Lakes being 38 points ahead, and a valiant third term wasn’t enough to get back in front.

Coach James Gibbs and William Puruntatameri Jnr were the stand-outs for Lakes, with five goals each, and the reliable Alex Saunders was named best-on-ground.

Charlie Bryan was named best for Wy Yung, and Wes Russell top-scored with three.

IN the reserves, Lakes Entrance didn’t have the same luck, falling to Lucknow 9.7 (61) to 3.8 (26).

The Magpies will play Boisdale-Briagolong this weekend.

Rod Johnson was best for Lucknow, in a game where the Magpies held the Seagulls to a single point in the second term.

LINDENOW made the under 18s grand final, after defeating Lucknow 9.11 (65) to 7.11 (53).

Harry Hood kicked three goals in a match that was very close for the first half.

The Cats play Lakes Entrance in the big game next week.

LAKES Entrance was too strong for Lindenow in the under 16s, winning 12.8 (80) to 3.3 (21).

The Cats were scoreless in the second term as Lakes ran away with the match, Will Forrester kicking four goals.

Wy Yung will meet Lakes Entrance next weekend.
