CONDITIONS were ideal for Thursday’s nine-event race day at Sale.

A good crowd enjoyed the racing, which was more like a city meeting.

Riding honours went to Luke Nolen and Ben Allen, who completed winning doubles.

Cranbourne training team Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young had two winners.

It was good to see local trainer Mario Farrugia, who have given much to the sport, still coming up with winners. Farrugia won the final event, the benchmark 58 handicap, with five-year-old gelding Elam, ridden by Beau Mertens.

The lightly-raced gelding has two wins and a second placing from only six starts.

Ripplebrook, trained at Sale by Sharyn Trolove and ridden by Noel Callow, was beaten by a nose in race six, the benchmark 64 handicap, by Johnny Vinko, trained by Busuttin and Young and ridden by Stephen Baster.

Ripplebrook is back in top form, following a last start win at Bairnsdale.

Colin Butcher’s Chilean Wonder, coming off a win at Sale, came close to making it two in a row, finishing a close second to Charlie Road, ridden by Ben Allen, in race seven benchmark 64 handicap.

Greg Eurell and jockey Jamie Mott combined to win the first evenm the three-year-old fillies maiden plate, with Great Duchess, who was second at Sale in August.

Sly Song, trained at Cranbourne by Wendy Kelly and ridden by Craig Williams, won the race two maiden plate.

The grey Cosmic City, ridden by Luke Nolen and trained by Busuttin and Young, came flying home to win the race three maiden plate.

Sikorsky, trained by the Hayes team and ridden by Nolen, won the race four maiden plate.

Foreshure, who has been racing at Flemington and Caufield, was well-ridden by Damien Lane to the race five benchmark 64 handicap.

Allen completed his winning double on Toorak Playboy in the race eight benchmark 64 handicap.

The next meeting at Greenwattle will be the Sale Cup on Sunday, October 28.
