Two airlifted after car and train collide in Bairnsdale

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a collision between a V/Line train and car in Bairnsdale on Friday.

The incident occurred at a Ligar St crossing about 6.30pm.

The two occupants in the car were trapped for some time before being cut free by emergency services.

The 19-year-old female driver, from Bairnsdale, was airlifted to hospital in a serious but stable condition, and her 17-year-old male passenger, also from Bairnsdale, was airlifted in a critical condition.

None of the 38 passengers on board the Traralgon-bound train were injured.
