WELLINGTON Shire Council will request the Minister for Planning to prepare and approve Amendment C100 to the Wellington Planning Scheme, after an historical mapping error had been identified in the application of the heritage overlay over land at the Yarram Butter Factory, 40 Commercial Rd, Yarram.
Listed on the National Trust Register in 1987, the Yarram Butter Factory was introduced into the Alberton Planning Scheme as H62 in 1993.
During June 2000 the shire’s new Format Planning Scheme was introduced and the heritage overlay for the Yarram Butter Factory was incorrectly mapped.
The mapping error was identified last year after a query from the landowner relating to the exploration of redevelopment options for the whole of the former Murray Goulburn milk factory and laboratory site.
The error requires formal correction through the Planning Scheme Amendment process to extend the protection from half of the building to the whole heritage building, including its façade, so council unanimously resolved at Tuesday’s meeting to ask the Planning Minister to correct the mapping error.
