STRATFORD Pizza and Takeaway owner Alistair Maccallum is calling on the local community to get behind men’s health as the Movember campaign continues.

The semi-retired proprietor is aiming to raise $2000, and will be donating $1 from every pizza sold this month to help raise awareness around this vitally important initiative.

“It is a horrific thought to think that there are more than 65,000 suicide attempts every year,” Mr Maccallum said.

“In rural communities you don’t really hear much because people tend to isolate themselves, but if we can offer our support, hopefully it will make men feel more comfortable about having a conversation.”

Mr Maccallum, originally from South Australia, has been supporting Movember for several years and said that testing for prostate cancer was less intrusive than in days gone by.

“It’s just a blood test now, so it is not as daunting as many people think.”

As well as donations from pizza sales, Mr Maccallum has set up a Movember team called ‘Stratford Mo-Bros’, where people can contribute.

“Ideally one day we will be able to have health care nurses stay with patients from diagnosis all the way through to treatment, similar to the breast care nurses we currently have for women” he said.

Movember has been running in Australia since 2003 and has grown to become a globally recognised event.
