Southern Rural Water says Glenmaggie Weir may not spill this year — the first time since 2006.

IT is unlikely there will be any spill entitlement for Macalister district irrigators this year, as demand for water continues to exceed inflows.

Based on current storage levels and customer usage, Southern Rural Water’s allocation model shows that MID irrigators will be allocated a minimum of 25 per cent of their low reliability water, should Lake Glenmaggie not spill before the cut-off date of December 15.

Water supply east manager Terry Clapham said, despite some recent rainfall across the district, a dry catchment has meant it was increasingly unlikely that Lake Glenmaggie would fill and spil before the declaration date.
