THE Licola and Dargo fires were still burning out of control in Wellington Shire’s north on Thursday morning, as the Gippsland Times went to print.

Strong westerly winds on Tuesday fuelled the Licola-Mt Margaret Track fire near Valencia Creek, with the blaze blowing out to about 71,442 hectares.

By Wednesday, the fire was nine kilometres north-west of Valencia Creek and 1.5km west of Marathon Rd close to the Blanket Wood Track intersection, although still not considered to be a threat to life or property.
