SALE field umpire Peter Perillo, has notched up an incredible 900 games - not a bad effort for a man who began umpiring football in 2005.

Perillo, better known to players and spectators as 'Krusty' for his likness to a character from The Simpsons, is president of the Sale Umpires Association.

Perillo reached the 900-game mark on Sunday, umpiring the women's league match at Boisdale.

Anyone who knows Perillo knows his passion for the game - not even a broken ankle in 2015 could hold him back for long.

So much is his love for the game, he's has umpired everything from senior and reserves to women's and juniors.

It's the spine-tingling enthusiasm of the crowd, the electric atmosphere of the ground and the passion of the players that combine to make every game memorable.

"I just love the game and there's not much that will keep me away," he said.

"The thrill of the game, the emotion, the discipline and the skill - it's all there.

"Yeah, there have been days where the cold is pretty hard to deal with but it doesn't take long to warm up on the ground.

"Every game is different and that's part of the excitement."
