RESIDENTS in Marley St, Sale were evacuated on Wednesday morning after a gas line was punctured on a construction site.
CFA Region 10 operations manager Len Scheetz said construction site workers punctured the gas line while undertaking earth works in a Bobcat about 8.50am.
“Police assisted evacuating the surrounding units and buildings in the area,” he said.
Two appliances, one from Sale and one from Maffra, responded with 15 firefighters on standby with hoses for asset protection.
“Brigades were on standby with hoses for asset protection,” Mr Scheetz said.
“It could have caught fire, but luckily it didn’t.
“Ignition sources were isolated and the gas company isolated the main line, which allowed workmen to repair the leak.”
