Gippsland Show entries close soon

ENTRIES for Gippsland’s premier agricultural show, the Gippsland Show, Sale close next week.

The 2012 show will take place on November 2 and 3, as the Sale and District Agricultural Society celebrates its 149th annual show.

Classes for the exhibition pavilion continue to grow, with over 550 different sections available for exhibitors. For students wanting to enter the cookery class, a new but slightly easier section has been created for packet cakes. Meanwhile, the art class boasts a new section for mixed media, with students also encouraged to put their creativity to the test in making a model farm animal from wire.

Strong entries are also expected in other popular student sections, which includes the best decorated piece of footwear and articles made from recycled materials. There is also plenty of interest in the flower classes, where students can create their own miniature gardens and novelties made from horticultural materials.

Sale and District Agricultural Society president John Mowat said this year’s show was coming together well, with great entries to date.

“One of our most popular classes is photography, which has received hundreds of entries over the last few years. This class is certainly shaping up to have another great bunch of exhibits this year” he said.

“The best decorated boiled egg is another great little contest; students continue to make some very interesting creations.”

The Friday night carnival is sure to entertain the crowd, with the thrilling return of Sammy Xuereb’s monstrous freestyle motocross team and monster trucks. The carnival will be capped off with a spectacular fireworks display.

The closing date for most entries is Friday, October 19, however entrants should check their particular classes more more information.
