THE seventeen members of the new Wellington Shire Youth Council were inducted last Tuesday night.
The youth council, led by youth mayor Jess Kearns, were sworn in by mayor Scott Rossetti, who said youth council provided the shire’s young people with a representative voice in the community.
“Youth council is a great advice to council itself on the issues the youth have,” Cr Rossetti said.
Cr Rossetti said the youth councillors would learning a lot through youth council, including how to be great community members, speak in public and conduct meetings.
“What youth council is doing is creating a whole lot of people who are happy to go to those AGMs and put their hand up because they realise we need people to put their hands up to run these organisations in the community,” he said.
“One of the great joys people reflect on their own lives is their contribution to the community. Typically that’s people find the most enjoyment out of in life. This is a great leadership melting pot.”
