Community officers assist paramedics

PARAMEDICS’ support in Gippsland will be boosted by greater support following the graduation of 12 Ambulance Community Officers.

The ACO’s graduated following a two week course, and will based in areas such as Heyfield, Loch Sport and Orbost.

Maffra Ambulance Service acting team manager Sandra Tozer, who is based in Maffra, said the graduating ACO’s had been sourced locally.

“It’s a fantastic boost for the region,” she said.

“They have completed a two week course which has been full on, there has been a lot to take on but they have all done that very, very well.

“All have been sourced locally from the community and they know the area well.

“They are all qualified to work on our Complex Patient Ambulance Vehicle.”

The CPAV can carry heavier loads and handle more complex patients and the equipment that travels with them than other ambulances.
