CWA shows its artistry

WOMEN from all over the district converged on Maffra, Friday, to view the works entered in the Country Women’s Association, North Gippsland Branch, Art and Craft Show at Maffra’s Memorial Hall.

Items on display included knitwear, hats, beanies and scarves; quilts; patchwork items; jams and preserves; cakes and sweet treats; soft toys and other colourful creations.

Stepping into the warm hall was more than just a relief from the cold wind for viewers, whose eyes were instantly drawn to vibrant quilts hanging on the walls.

The best in show award went to Pat McDiarmid for her stuffed dragon ‘Puff’.

Matte Lanigan and Margaret Bower of the CWA’s Bundalaguah branch came first and second restively for the pieces they entered in the over 90s section.

A new category, created for 2013, the over 90s section was in honour of Joan McLoud who died last year before she could reach her 90th birthday.
