Heyfield’s honour board to be restored

THE replacement of gold leaf lettering on Heyfield RSL’s honour boards will be completed thanks to the 2012-2013 Restoring Community War Memorial Grants Program.

Veterans’ Affairs Minister Hugh Delahunty joined members of the Heyfield RSL on Wednesday to announce $2500 for the restoration of the historical black wood honour boards.

“The Coalition Government is committed to preserving the memories and deeds of our veterans for current and future generations,” Mr Delahunty said.

“The record numbers throughout the state at recent ANZAC Day services highlight just how important war memorials and honour boards are to communities when it comes to honouring the sacrifice of local veterans.

“That is why we are delighted to announce that even more Victorian communities will benefit from this program to help them repair, protect, restore, and enhance their local war memorials and honour boards.

Heyfield RSL secretary-treasurer Alan Anstee said the funding would help the RSL in its preparations for the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War in 2014.
