THE Victoria Racing Club’s Melbourne Cup Tour received a resounding welcome to Maffra last weekend as part of its three-month journey across Australia and New Zealand.
Led by Maffra Rotary Club hundreds of people joined in events and had the opportunity to hold the 18-carat gold Melbourne Cup and be captivated by John Marshall’s personal insights into the race.
VRC representative Rhys Bennett said the visit was an outstanding success and congratulated the Rotary Club for an impressive and memorable two days.
“The Victoria Racing Club is incredibly proud to share the Melbourne Cup and is overwhelmed and appreciative with how the community of Maffra warmly embraced the visit,” he said.
The tour party enjoyed a trip to the Duart Homestead on Saturday attending a public viewing in the afternoon before an evening cocktail event.
The weekend was capped off in spectacular fashion with the tour party joining the participants in the Melbourne to Maffra Car Rally at the Gippsland Vehicle Collection before visiting residents at Stretton Park aged hostel.
