NOTHING screams Friday like a full weekend of fun waiting in the wings.
And this weekend couldn’t be more jam-packed.
Possibly the biggest weekend on Wellington Shire’s spring calendar, with the Maffra and District Agricultural Show running tomorrow and Saturday and the Sale Cup on Sunday, residents will spoilt for choice.
Celebrating 125 years, organisers promise that this Maffra Show will the biggest one yet.
Saturday night’s carnival will have games and activities to entertain the whole family, including the show’s first twilight wood chop.
There will be animal acts, stunt riders, music, a human tractor pull, Gator races and so much more.
On Sunday the stakes will be high with $150,000 up for grabs in the Sale Cup for fastest horse, and a further $100,000 for the fastest three-year-old in the Inglis Handicap.
Adding to the colour and the excitement, Mirvac Gippsland Centre will act as host and sponsor for Fashions on the Field, offering $6000 in prizes across five categories.
It will be the sponsor’s second year acting in both capacities.
Registration closes at 12.20pm ready for competition to start at 12.30pm.
With organisers hoping for a crowd of 5000 or more, free bus services will be running from Sale and Maffra (each with two services) as well as Heyfield, Briagolong and Stratford.
Police have advised show and race goers that they will be out in force this weekend, suggesting people plan their travel arrangements ahead of time, especially if drinking.
