Mad Hatters will party

It’s always tea time for mad hatters and the time is always right to have tea, so what time could be better than the Wellington Regional Tourism ‘Mad Hatters come to Wellington’ free family fun day?

Dusting off their hats and fine tuning their futterwacken dance moves Mad Hatters Darren McCubbin and Matt Cummins are gearing up to go bonkers, as all the best people are, on Saturday, May 17.

Tumbling down the rabbit hole to join them, Alice (played by Mikkayla Mossop) is keen to take part in the fun and games.

Running from 10am until noon in the Sale Pedestrian Mall, an array of free activities for children of all ages, including craft, games, colouring competitions, cake stalls and Mad Hatter dance lessons, will be on offer.

Workshops in Mad Hatter hat making will also take place courtesy of the Gippsland Art Gallery.

Schools and community groups are invited to fund raise for their organisations by selling tea party food.

There is no cost to set up a stall, with trestle tables and power provided, but bookings are essential.

In the event of wet weather activities will be moved indoors at the Gippsland Centre Sale.

In the lead up to the event special story times will be held at Wellington Shire libraries from Monday, May 12 to Friday, May 16, celebrating Lewis Carroll’s 1865 novel.

The Wellington Shire Council will also hold a variety of Alice in Wonderland themed events encouraging dance, movement and social interaction.
