Expect delays at Longford

MOTORISTS should expect short delays along the South Gippsland Highway at Longford for the next “two to three weeks” as construction of the pedestrian bridge alongside the road continues.

For some periods the highway will be completely closed for about seven minutes to allow cranes to safely swing bridge components into place.

Because of the bridge’s close proximity to the highway, two cranes need to sit on the highway to lift beam and decking materials into place, which affects traffic flow.

At other times, one lane will be closed with traffic controllers in place to allow alternating directions of traffic through the site.

A spokesperson for VicRoads said it was making efforts to avoid carrying out works during peak times, and appreciated the community’s patience.

VicRoads expects delays to be in place for “a few hours a day, a couple of days a week”.
