Hair today, gone tomorrow

GIPPSLAND Times’ World’s Greatest Shave team members delivered on their promise to have their heads shaved and their hair turned outrageous colours on Friday.

David Monck of Sale’s Hair New York took the clippers to advertising consultant Julian McIvor, journalist Davyd Reid and sports editor David Braithwaite, exposing their scalps to the world.

Advertising consultants Sarah Hall, Danielle Killeen and Becky McNamara took turns to apply the spray packs to each other, transforming their hair to brilliant hues of red, blue and silver.

Mr Braithwaite said while some might think he would do anything for a free haircut, he really had his head shaved to help raise awareness of blood cancers.

“I got involved because it was a way to help out a great cause,” he said.

Ms Hall said the team was grateful to the many people who had donated through the collection tin and at the Gippsland Times office. The team will continue its fundraising through Facebook and direct appeals until the end of the month.

Money raised through the World’s Greatest Shave funds free services to support patients and their families including information, emotional care, transport to and from treatment and accommodation for regional Australians who need to move closer to hospital.
