Drunk Sale L-plate driver turns violent

A ROUTINE breath test quickly turned violent after an L-plate driver fled from police on Saturday night.

Police from Melbourne’s Operational Response Unit intercepted the 20-year- old Sale man about 10.45pm that night in Sale for a regular breath test.

The man, who was driving without a supervisor in an unregistered car, fled the scene.

He abandoned his car and ran to Market St, where officers again intercepted him.

Police allege the man then turned violent and tackled an officer to the ground before he was subdued with capsicum spray.

He was arrested and taken to Sale police station.

The man was charged on summons with refusing a breath test, resisting arrest, driving an unregistered vehicle, drink driving and several other traffic offences.
