South Gippsland Highway between Sale and Longford was closed to all traffic last night and will be closed between 11pm and 6am each night until about the end of June.
Following longer than expected traffic delays last week VicRoads and the contractor working on the Cox’s Bridge project have programmed works to occur on the fully closed highway between the hours of 11pm and 6am.
The temporary road closures are being introduced to avoid lengthy delays throughout the day, and to minimise impacts when traffic is busiest.
This will allow bridge works to be carried out when traffic is quieter and allow motorists to plan their journey ahead of time.
These set hours of closure between 11pm and 6am will continue seven days a week (excluding the Queen’s Birthday long weekend) until this component of the project is completed around late June, subject to weather conditions.
During these hours traffic will be detoured via Rosedale.
Outside the road closure periods there will be minimal impacts to motorists while passing through the work sites.
Carrying these works out at night will also avoid the previous need to completely shut the highway for a full working day. For more information phone the Traralgon VicRoads office on 5172 2666.
