THREE women had to be rescued from a car stranded in floodwater near Yarram as floods ravaged Wellington Shire this week.
As floodwaters swept into Yarram and Alberton, the SES was called out at 6.20am on Tuesday morning to rescue three women who had become stranded after attempting to drive through water in Pound Rd in Alberton West.
Yarram SES Controller Duncan McConnachie said SES volunteers drove through floodwaters to find the car abandoned, with the women having been driven to safety by a passer-by.
“Emergency services need to be kept updated about a situation so we don’t end up having to send our volunteers driving through floodwaters unless they have to,” Mr McConnachie said.
“It’s very dangerous to drive through floodwaters, and even more so in the dark since you can’t see what kind of debris could be in the water.”
Mr McConnachie reminded locals to phone triple zero if there was an emergency.
