VICTORIA Police has confirmed a threat of an explosive device caused the evacuation of Sale Police Station at 8.20am, Friday.
The Bomb Response Unit was called from Melbourne but a thorough search of the building and surrounding locations failed to find any evidence of a device, and the police station reopened at 2.20pm.
Nearby residences were also evacuated during the incident.
Police have declined to give details on how the threat was delivered.
Acting Inspector Jerry Barlow said officers at Sale handled the incident well.
“I’m very happy with the response we had from our members there,” he said.
“We moved our uniform members to Maffra, and our Highway Patrol members to Heyfield and carried on our work.”
Detectives from Wellington Crime Investigation Unit are investigating the bomb scare.
