Pub’s safe smashed open

POLICE are on the hunt for brazen burglars who smashed open a safe at a pub and stole thousands of dollars in cash in Sale at the weekend.

Offenders broke into Jack Ryan’s Irish Bar in Raymond St some time between 10pm on Sunday night and 10am on Monday morning.

They made their way into the upstairs offices of the venue, and there, using heavy tools, apparently smashed their way into the bolted-down safe in the office, stealing what police described as a “large quantity” of cash.

Jack Ryan’s licncess, Shay Madzikanda, said he is now offering a reward of $1000 cash to anyone that provides information that may lead to an arrest.

“I really want to see whoever did this end up in court,” he said.

Mr Madzikanda said he had since upgraded his security at the venue and now made sure there was no cash left on the premises after hours.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to phone Detective Senior Constable Glenn Thomson at Wellington Crime Investigation Unit on 5143 5000.
