A 68-YEAR-old Maffra man is lucky to be alive after falling off his horse and tumbling 30 metres down a cliff face near Wombat Crossing camp ground adjacent to the Avon River, just outside of Boisdale, Friday afternoon.
Briagalong police, along with SES, CFA and Ambulance Victoria attended the scene, finding the man about an hour after his wife reported him missing.
The man was winched to the safety of a nearby paddock by air ambulance before being stabilised and transported to Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital in a serious yet stable condition.
He suffered head and internal injuries and multiple fractures.
Police said he was wearing a helmet which probably helped him survive the fall.
