Candidate statement – Jeff Amos

WELLINGTON needs councillors willing to engage with the community and work for the development of the whole shire from the coastal areas to the mountains.

We need a council that listens to people’s issues and undertakes responsible decision making.

I have a commitment to sound financial management, long term infrastructure planning, tourism and economic development.

During my time on council I have worked hard to obtain many improvements throughout the shire.

We need strong advocacy for improved educational opportunities and policies to encourage our youth to remain in our shire.

We must continue our advocacy for improved public transport, a better financial deal from other levels of government and encourage investment in our towns and agriculture sector.

I support continued assistance for community groups, maintenance and upgrade of our road and bridge network, sustainable use of our water assets and planned development throughout the shire whilst keeping any rate rises to a manageable level.

A former teacher, I have lived in the Yarram district for 35 years.

My community service includes Gippsland Bowls Region Chairman; Yarram bowls secretary; Apex life member; WGCMA community advisory group chairman and executive member of RoadSafe Gippsland.

I have the experience, diverse range of skills and time necessary to represent all people in the community, having been mayor and deputy mayor twice and current Municipal Association of Victoria board member. I’m also deputy chair of the MAV professional development and planning committees.

I seek your support to make Wellington an even better place to live.
