Candidate statement – John Duncan

I LIVE in Maffra and teach at Catholic College Sale.

For the last three summers I have operated the fire tower at the Pinnacles for DSE.

I hope to do so again this summer.

My career has been in secondary and tertiary education with the creation and operation of the Australian Technical College being the most satisfying.

Outside education I was the national general manager of a public limited listed company that had its home office in Perth.

My community involvement has been across many years.

Perhaps it started through sporting organisations; now as a Justice of the Peace and the honorary position of official prison visitor at the Fulham Correctional Centre where I report on the operations of the prison through regular observations as a community observer.

I am a Wellington Shire resident who appreciates the beauty of this region.

I am a gardener and I enjoy the bush.

I am particularly fond of the High Country.

If I were elected to our shire I would be an active participant in all its decision making.

I would attempt to represent all matters from ‘the mountains to the sea’.

I would try to be available to listen to all residents and be their voice.

I have said in other statements that I would promote responsible financial management for the benefit of all.

At the same time we must move forward.

Please elect a council that will represent us all.

We need young people, men and women, along with some older people with significant experience.
