POLICE are appealing for public assistance as they investigate whether a dog was deliberately killed in Traralgon last week.
Around two weeks ago, two two-year-old Maltese Shitzu dogs got out at a residential premises on High Street, however one of the dogs returned shortly after.
Around 7.30pm on Friday, October 26 the owners heard their dog yelping in the backyard and went to investigate.
They located the still-warm body of the missing dog, Indie, who had suspicious puncture wounds and a broken neck.
They alerted the police and Latrobe Crime Investigation Unit is currently investigating the matter.
Detectives believe someone may have been taking care of the dog after it ran away and are appealing for anyone who may have located or seen a small dog over the past two weeks to come forward.
Police would also like to hear from anyone who knows anything about the incident or noticed any suspicious activity in the High St area last Friday night.
