Two charged over armed robbery

POLICE have charged two people over an armed robbery on a Sale petrol station Saturday morning.

The United Petroleum service station on the corner of the Sale-Maffra Rd and Princes Highway was held up between 3am and 4amSaturday morning.

Police have arrested a 24-year-old Sale woman and a 36-year-old Sunshine man in relation to the armed robbery.

The woman was arrested locally on Sunday.

The man was apprehended by detectives from a Wellington special operations unit in Flemington on Tuesday.

Police allege offenders entered the petrol station, a man armed with a double barrel shot gun and a woman carrying a large combat-style hunting knife.

The man allegedly jabbed the gun at the attendant and directed it at his face as he demanded cash.

When the attendant opened the till, the pair allegedly snatched cash before fleeing north along the Princes Highway in what police allege was a stolen car.

Police said the offenders wore hats and scarves.

The pair have been charged with armed robbery and firearms offences.

In addition, the woman is also on remand for an attempted burglary charge relating to an incident outside Central Gippsland Health Service, Sale, on November 10, and the man has been charged with stealing the car allegedly used in the robbery.

The man was arrested following a police search at a Lakes Entrance property on Monday where a shotgun was allegedly found, among other items.

The pair will face Sale Magistrates court on March 6 next year.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Mehlert of Wellington CIU thanked the public for its assistance.
