Deer hunter forfeits weapon and licence

THIRTY-five-year-old Yallourn North man Nicolas Lapenta, fronted Sale Magistrates Court last month charged over an incident in August where he was caught in possession of a loaded firearm and spotlight in recognised deer habitat at Lower Dargo Rd, Dargo.

He was convicted and fined $1000 and has had his firearms licence revoked. The weapon and spotlight have been forfeited.

It is an offence under the 1996 firearms act to possess loaded firearms on any thoroughfare including all roads on public land and under Wildlife (Game) Regulations being in possession of a spotlight and firearm together is an offence.
