High Country on high alert

THE area of the Great Alpine Road, Dargo High Plains Road, including Hotham Heights, Dinner Plain, the Wongungarra River north of Dargo is unsafe to enter because of fire with residents told to leave the area immediately.

The Country Fire Authority has advised there is fire activity in the Dargo, Swifts Creek, Ensay, Cobungra, Omeo area.

This Harrietville-Feathertop bushfire is about 9373 hectares in size and is out of control, currently creating spot-fires ahead.

The fire has crossed the Great Alpine Road between Harrietville and Hotham Heights.

Smoke may be visible from nearby communities and roads.

There will be an increase in emergency vehicle traffic.

The Great Alpine Road is close between Harrietville and Dinner Plain. The Dargo High Plains Road is closed between Dargo and the Great Alpine Road.

The public has been advised to remain vigilant.

People have been asked to check their bushfire survival plan. Those without a plan are to decide what they would do if the situation changed.
