A MAN has been arrested following a fire in Morwell on Saturday.
Investigators believe the blaze was lit to burn off rubbish at a private property about 7pm.
Firefighters from the Country Fire Authority attended and the fire was extinguished.
Police attended and arrested a 48-year-old Morwell man.
He is expected to be charged on summons.
Under the Country Fire Act 1958 it is an offence to light a fire during a fire danger period without a permit and landowners should be aware of the dangers of breaching the legislation.
Police have warned it was not only arsonists who could be prosecuted for fire offences.
Accidental fires sparked by angle grinders, cigarette butts and unauthorised burn-offs could spiral out of control and threaten property and lives.
